K+R designs buildings, campuses, and communities. We study how places work, then use that knowledge to make architecture that's creative, real, and built to last.
K+R is a design laboratory — an architecture, planning, and urban design studio that treats every project as a chance to learn.
We study what's worked, and what hasn't, before we design. That's how we arrive at buildings and places that are creative, real, and sustainable — not aspirational renderings, but places people actually live well in.
People come first. Every project — from a single building to a district plan — should reflect the community it serves.
We look at precedent and context first. The research points to the solution — not the other way around.
Energy performance and site ecology are part of the design from day one, not an add-on at the end.
No templates. Every building should reflect the community and climate it's designed for.
Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication.Leonardo da Vinci
Buildings designed from concept through construction detail — workplaces, institutions, hospitality, and mixed-use.
Communities and transit districts planned around how people actually move, gather, and live.
Streets, parks, and open space designed for everyday use, not just for renderings.
Civic, academic, and health-sciences facilities, and offices built for performance and comfort.
Development grounded in LEED and CalGreen from the first site plan onward.
Theme parks and tech campuses — places that need a different kind of design logic.
Preindustrial settlements had a direct relationship with the resources that sustained them. The industrial revolution severed that link — centralizing food, water, and energy into systems that disconnected us from the places we live. K+R's Green Realignment model works to restore that connection, city by city.
“For the human species to survive growth, we need to make our planet greener. For both to happen, we need to fit more in less space; density is no longer a debate.”
Two decades of practice across four continents — from transit infrastructure in Southern California to master-planned districts in the Gulf and health-sciences campuses across China. The map below marks the cities where K+R has delivered work.
